Medical Breakthroughs

Personalized Medicine:
We are now at the point where if a patient comes in with a cancer diagnosis, we can analyze the DNA of that particular cancer to know which targeted drug is more likely to be effective and save them months of trial and error. We can also take a drop of blood from a patient now and know which diseases they are at risk of. And in the near future, instead of seeing your doctor once a year for your blood pressure, you will be able to collect your own data on an ongoing basis and share that information with your doctor to create the best outcome for yourself on a long term basis.

Immunotherapy:
Every cancer cell has a ‘don’t eat me’ signal on its surface. The new immunotherapy drugs that are being developed essentially block the signal in the cancer cells, which means that the body’s own immune system can combat the cancer cells itself, which dramatically eliminates harsh side effects from certain chemotherapies. Jimmy Carter, for example, received immunotherapy drugs, which not only stopped the cancer from growing, but he tolerated quite well and was still able to live his life and continue his important work. This therapy has done quite well in melanoma, kidney cancers and some lung cancers.

Age Reversal:
In 1955, Wanda Lunsford tied the skin of an old rat and young rat together and discovered that the old rat began to ‘age backwards’, displaying shinier fur and clearer eyes. This same experiment was replicated 3 times in 2014. What happens? The procedure activates dormant stem cells, which allows tissues to be restored. What if in the near future you can receive a dose of synthesized young blood and avoid the Alzheimers that runs in your family, maintain mobility, keep your metabolism from slowing down, and keep arthritis and diabetes at bay? It could literally be a fountain of youth.

Benefits of Aspirin & Statins:
-2,000 years ago Hippocrates noticed that the bark and leaves of the willow tree would help alleviate pain and fevers. Now we know that a baby aspirin can dramatically lower inflammation in the body, reduce the risk of cancer overall, and reduce the risk of dying from common cancers by 21 – 46 percent (depending on the cancer, vs. people who are not taking aspirin, unless you are at higher risk for gastrointestinal bleeding or other issues). Talk to your doctor if a daily baby aspirin might be right for you.
-Statins used to be a drug given solely to reduce cholesterol, but now we have discovered that statins have a profound effect on the entire body because they control systemic inflammation (which unchecked can lead to many serious illnesses). Studies have shown that statins can reduce the risk of first-time heart attacks, strokes and even death from heart disease by 25 to 35 percent. It can also reduce the chances of recurrent strokes and heart attacks by about 40 percent, and a recent study showed a lowered risk of death from cancer.
-These are powerful numbers!
