Dr. Greg Yapalater shares tips for “surviving summer.”
Dr. Greg A. Yapalater graduated from the University of Paris Medical School, Bobigny, France in 1981. He works in New York, NY and specializes in Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine. Dr. Yapalater is affiliated with Lenox Hill Hospital and Mount Sinai Medical Center. He speaks English and French.
Surviving Summer Health Tips:
-Mosquitos known to be capable of carrying Zika virus are already found in the US
-Zika is very dangerous to unborn children
-Use insect repellents, wear long sleeves and pants, stay indoors during peak mosquito times
-Not all ticks carry Lyme disease
-Do tick checks each night
-It takes 36 hours for a tick to spread lyme to its host
-Wear long pants tucked into socks to avoid ticks
-Good to be out in sun for 20 minutes unprotected
-Wear hats and sun glasses and long sleeves and pants or sunscreen
-Non chemical sun blocks protect as well as chemical sunscreens
-You do not need an SPF above 35
-Poison Ivy plants have 3 leaves
-If you touch the plants, immediately wash with soap and water
-The rash is not contagious to others
